Stay Connected
Want to know what's happening at Sylvia Mendez? Here's how to stay informed!
We use multiple communication methods to ensure all families receive the latest information. Here's how you can stay in the loop and help share the news:
Remind App
Automatic Enrollment: All current guardians are automatically signed up for the Remind App to receive messages from the school principal and most teachers.
Affinity Groups: Our Affinity Groups also use Remind.
Family Support: Our Family Engagement Specialist uses Remind to connect anonymous families with support for housing, food, transportation, clothing, and more.
Get the App: If you haven't already, install the Remind app on your phone:
School Newsletter
Weekly Updates: The principal sends a weekly newsletter every Wednesday via the Remind App.
School Events Calendar
Subscribe to Our School Events Calendar: Find upcoming events. Clicking the "Subscribe" button located at the bottom left corner of the calendar display. Our calendar includes school holidays and events, PTA events, and some Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) and community events.
Room Parents
Classroom Communication: Each classroom has a Room Parent who emails class and grade-level information, teacher updates, PTA news, and coordinates volunteers.
Connect with Your Room Parent: If you are a current guardian and not receiving emails from a Room Parent, contact your student's teacher to be connected.
PTA Meetings
Attend a Meeting: PTA meetings are a great way to learn about important issues affecting your child, including programs, curriculum, school funding, and special events.
Bulletin Boards
In-Person Updates: School and community event information is posted on bulletin boards near the school entrance on Ellsworth Street.
Robo Calls
Important Announcements: Robo calls are recorded phone messages sent by the BUSD administration or the Sylvia Mendez principal.
Home Phone Notifications: Robo calls are sent to every home phone number on record.
